Stephen B. Armstrong, Ph.D
I am a film historian with numerous publications, including, most recently, the multi-volume series Roger Corman’s New World Pictures (1970-1983): An Oral History, for which I serve as general editor. I am also the author of Paul Bartel: The Life and Films (2017). Pictures About Extremes: The Films of John Frankenheimer (2008) and Andrew V. McLaglen: The Life and Hollywood Career (2011). I also edited John Frankenheimer: Interviews, Essays and Profiles (2013) and director-photographer Steve Carver’s Western Portraits: The Unsung Heroes & Villains of the Silver Screen (2019). A professor of English, I teach creative writing at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah. In 2013, the university honored me with its Best Teacher award; in 2021, I received the university’s Distinguished Professor award. My most recent book, I Want You Around: The Ramones and the Making of Rock ‘n’ Roll High School (Backbeat Books), is scheduled for release in 2023.
